Welcome to the season of balance and transition, as here in the northern hemisphere the fullness and abundance of summer make way for the harvest – the gathering in – of Fall. Astronomically, this is marked by the Sun moving into the first degree of Libra, rising and setting due East on the horizon, happening this year on September 22 at 9:04 pm EDT.
Libra is the zodiac sign of choices – choices made by considering all voices, by weighing our own authentic needs and wants against those of the collective. Especially this year, it is crucial to give ourselves plenty of time for rest and contemplation so we can move forward with decisions that come from our truest selves. And master communicator Mercury will be in the same degree as the Sun on the day of the Equinox, so expect revelations, maybe from unexpected sources, guiding us on the path to building an abundant future.
The stage was set for this powerful month of change with last week’s New Moon in earthy Virgo. Virgo is about tending to what is sacred, listening to our body’s deep wisdom and coming into harmony with natural rhythms in simple, everyday tasks. Mars in Gemini making a feisty square to the Sun and Moon, was there to remind us to use our magical mind power to germinate new ideas — not beat ourselves up by running the same old tapes. What have we been asked to let go of, during this time of purification?
As we grow into the Pisces Full Moon on September 10, spiritual energies are high, with dreamy Neptune amplifying the Full Moon energy. Time to tune in to the subtle messages all around us, giving us clues on how we may walk more fully in the energy of our soul selves.
Mercury is stationing retrograde in Libra the day before the exact full moon, moving back into Virgo before it goes direct again in early October. This theme of ‘going back over’ is echoed big time by all the outer planets (Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto) who continue in retrograde motion for the entire month.
We are being asked to slow down and sink into the process of being present with what is, with compassion and acceptance. This is definitely a time to unplug from the jangling messages of fear and despair we are bombarded with on a daily basis, to seek out quiet time so we can listen deeply to the still, small voice within. Journal, dream, meditate, tend a plant, walk in nature. This has never been more vital. Be with your body, find the sacred hidden in plain sight, in everyday activities.
The New Moon on September 25 is at 3 degrees of Libra. The Sabian Symbol for this degree is full of promise as we negotiate these challenging times: “The dawn of a new day reveals everything changed.” Continue to keep your heart tuned to the inner compass that will take us there.
These last few months of the year promise to be intense, a crucial turning point for these years of chaos and uncertainty, as all that is no longer serving us, personally and collectively, breaks apart to be composted for the new world that is not quite here yet. It is time to let go of trying to control or deny the process. Our best way through is to focus our heart energy on uncovering, nurturing, and expressing our inner truth, residing all along in our own still center. Everyone can do this – it is our birthright. From this place of deepest knowing magic, mystery and miracles will inevitably unfold.
