| Otto labyrinth one of a kind | | By Johnny Woodhouse Not many folks would turn two acres of their private land into a nature park. Fewer still would encourage strangers to visit the site unannounced. But that's exactly what Jill and Charlie Henry had in mind when they built their one-of-a-kind labyrinth park in Otto last April. Unlike a maze, a labyrinth is one clear but winding path to the center. This centuries-old design is one of many that has been revived for the public by churches and individuals such as the Henrys. Labyrinth walks are reportedly being rediscovered across the country as a tool of meditation. There are labyrinths at St. Bartholomew Episcopal Church in Toco Hills, GA. and Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Decatur, GA. Area labyrinth locations include Leicester and Fairview. During the middle ages, Catholics made symbolic journeys to the Holy City by walking a labyrinth. The Henrys, who Own Otto Based Mountain Valley Center, said more that 200 people have visited their seven-circuit labyrinth which measures 65 feet in diameter and is a half a mile long from start to finish. Walkers sign a register after strolling the park, which also includes a tree lined walking path and ponds. The labyrinth is composed of 10 tones of stone, including five keystones of rose quartz at its center. |
The Otto labyrinth park is situated on two acres of private land in Otto. It also features a walking path and ponds. For the Henrys, building the labyrinth, they say, is a way to share the land with others. There is no charge to visit the site, but contributions to its maintenance and further development are accepted. Directions to the labyrinth may be obtained by calling or visiting Mountain Valley Center, which is located at 10248 Georgia Rd.

Let your fingers do the walking! A labyrinth is a magical single path maze. A maze has many paths and is essentially a left-brain puzzle. Walk it with your curser or print out this page and walk it with your finger. The numbers and colors represent the 7 chakras of the body. In walking a labyrinth, you actually begin on the 3rd chakra (yellow), the solar plexus, "I think" . Then your proceed to the 2nd, pelvic chakra (orange), "I feel". Your next path is the 1st chakra (red), "I am". Then on to the 4th charka (green), "I love", the 7th chakra (indigo), "I am more!", the 6th chakra (violet), "I see", the 5th chakra (blue), "I speak" and finally to the center (pink), "I listen". |

| More Tid-bits about Labyrinths Read and enjoy! LABYRINTHS: The universal mystical meaning of the labyrinth form is as a symbol for the journey into the world of spirit and the return, a leaving of one state and a rebirth into another. The Classical Seven-path Labyrinth is not a maze within which to get lost, but rather a single winding pathway in and out again. Labyrinths are known as sacred gateways and have been found at ancient sites around the world. Often found at the center of subtle earth energies these temples enhance, balance, and regenerate both the auric field and the Earth itself. Labyrinths have been associated with ancient pilgrimage routes and rituals of self-discovery. They were worn as a form of protection and ornamentation and were often carved on doorways to bless a dwelling. Labyrinths are time windows, portals where time stands still. They confirm our unity with the cosmos, awaken our vital force, and elevate our consciousness. They are known to facilitate altered states of consciousness and have parallels with reincarnation, initiation, prosperity, and fertility rites. The Classical Seven-path Labyrinth resonates with the vibration of "seven" and has a direct correlation with the primary Chakras, Tones in the scale, and colors of the rainbow. It is believed that the action of "dancing" a labyrinth magically activates its inherit powers! The Labyrinth is equated with the brain, and many cultures believe that the Labyrinth could cure illness. The action of moving through the Labyrinth produces a sense of well-being and balance through a type of vestibular stimulation, accessing both left and right hemispheres of the brain. |

We have established a non-profit organization to facilitate development of facilities at the Labyrinth. Plans include building a "screen house" with restrooms and a fireplace just beyond the pond. Plans have also been drawn up for building several cabins in the woods to accommodate visitors on site. If you would like to help us fulfill these plans by making a tax deductible contribution to the Otto Labyrinth Park Fund, click here.
