CranioSacral Therapy

What is CranioSacral Therapy?

CranioSacral TherapyCranioSacral Therapy (CST) is a gentle, hands-on approach that releases tensions deep in the body to relieve pain and dysfunction and improve whole-body health and performance. It was pioneered and developed by Osteopathic Physician John E. Upledger after years of clinical testing and research.
Using a soft touch which is generally no greater than 5 grams - about the weight of a nickel - practitioners release restrictions in the soft tissues that surround the central nervous system. CST is increasingly used as a preventive health measure for its ability to bolster resistance to disease, and it's effective for a wide range of medical problems associated with pain and dysfunction.

How does CranioSacral Therapy Work?

CranioSacral TherapyWith a light touch, the CST practitioner uses his or her hands to evaluate the craniosacral system by gently feeling various locations of the body to test for the ease of motion and rhythm of the cerebrospinal fluid pulsing around the brain and spinal cord. Soft-touch techniques are then used to release restrictions in any tissues influencing the craniosacral system.
By normalizing the environment around the brain and spinal cord and enhancing the body’s ability to self-correct, CranioSacral Therapy is able to alleviate a wide variety of dysfunctions, from chronic pain and sports injuries to stroke and neurological impairment.

Description of a CranioSacral Session

CranioSacral Therapy Sessions are provided by Dr. Jill Henry, EdD, PT, APP in the Healing Room attached to the Otto Labyrinth Park Welcome Center in Otto, NC. We are located half way between Atlanta, GA and Asheville, NC in the Great Smoky Mountains.
Upon entering the center, you will complete a one page history and be asked your goals. Then you will lie down on a massage table, fully clothed. Jill will follow Dr. Upledger's 10 step protocol for a CST treatment. Your treatment begins with Jill assessing your CranioSacral rhythm at your feet, legs, belly, neck and head. This provides information as to where restrictions might be. Then Jill begins a gentle hands-on releasing at restricted body parts, using pressure no more than 5 grams (the weight of a nickle) to release tight structures and re-establish a normal rhythm.

  • A 30 minute session is $35.00
  • A 60 minute session is $60.00
  • Additional sessions receive a 20% discount if you make your next appointment before you leave, or if you purchase a gift certificate to be used in the future.
The most common comments after a session are
  • "I feel so much lighter"
  • "That pain I've had for so long is not there anymore"
